Background
An individual or
an organization needs an internet service to make their website accessible
through the World Wide Web. That service is called web hosting. Web hosting
service is provided by companies that have servers, a computer or device which
provide a working platform to other computers called clients. Providing web
hosting means giving someone space on the server.
Traditional Web
hosting used one server and was wholly dependent on its physical condition. In
case if the server goes off all the services get suspended until it is
restarted. It provided a limited bandwidth and speed.
Increasing
technology demanded a solution of these problems with high-speed security and
availability. Hence an advanced web hosting with multiple servers, no downtime,
and high robustness was introduced and given name cloud web hosting.
History
History of the
web hosting is no so old it was after the invention of internet and awareness
of the companies and individuals to launch their websites that need of hosting
felt.
The internet
could not grow well in its earlier phase because it was only used to transfer
files and data and to launch a website, the individual or company needed to buy
a personal server which was not affordable by most of the companies and
individual. Later on when the concept of hosting sharing server started the
world entered into a new era of inventions and innovations.
It was not
before 1991 when national science foundation decided to remove commercial
restrictions from the website, with this many profit companies joined hands
with a foundation which previously was used for research and education and also
in the same year Tim Berners-Lee and his co-workers started WWW (World Wide
Web). These changes increased the number of internet users.
Then started a series of developments some of
them are discussed here
Launching
of GeoCity: GeoCity was launched 1994. It was the first hosting
site which allowed people to upload pages and was later on sold to Yahoo in
1999.
The
start of Shared Hosting: it is believed that around 1998 hosting
packages were offered with a very low storage. Average hosting storage was
about 153 MBs while there were some providers including Tibus, even were
offering 10 MB storage in their entry level package.
Starting
of dedicated servers: This was completely a new service provided
at that time with higher speed and reliability. They offered a separate server
to the buyer for his services.
After some
failure services, a new innovation took charge of hosting.
The
cloud hosting: The cloud hosting started in 2007. It with its
unique features and applications took the world in storm 2009 when small
businesses and enterprises came to know the features of cloud hosting. From
then up to now, it is dominating the hosting world.
The working mechanism of Cloud Web Hosting
Some of the
problems that preceding web hosting had like dependency on the physical
condition of a single server, small bandwidth, small storage, speed, and
security are the main reasons why the cloud web hosting was developed.
Cloud web
hosting has a cluster of virtually connected servers. If the main server fails
the other server takes its place as gives it back-up to make sure the
availability of the services.
In old web hosting
sometimes due to a heavy traffic or something else an overloading cause
improper functioning of the website, which is covered here with virtually
connected servers by making different paths for the traffic.
Cloud web
hosting provides security, speed, large storage and bandwidth along with high
uptime features. Cloud web hosting has a variety of packages that a user can
avail according to his needs and requirements.
Future of Cloud web hosting
Having
outstanding features the web hosting is successfully working with large
enterprises for a long time. The number of users is increasing day by day
rapidly. Small businesses are also converting to cloud hosting because of the
high-quality features it offers.
With advance
technology cloud web hosting is also enhancing their quality by adding new
features and applications in order to provide better services and to cope with
the challenges of the time.
